Formada en 1995, Catamenia es una impresionante banda de Finlandia de Melodic Black Metal en sus inicios y Folk/Death Melodico hoy en día. Se trata de una de mis bandas favoritas (por algo será) y es que en todos sus discos todos y cada uno de sus temas son temas geniales y eso pocas bandas lo consiguen. Catamenia es una de ellas y a pesar de haber cambiado su estilo de un extremo a otro han sabido mantener su esencia de principio a fin. Su música se caracteriza por geniales y épicas melodías con siempre un trasfondo Folk escandinavo conseguido a través de sus guitarras y su teclado dejando una fría esencia escandinava inconfundible. Sus primeros discos son toda una "delicatesen" para los amantes del mejor Black Metal Melódico y para cualquiera que le mole el Folk/Black Melódico. Es a partir de su disco "Eskhata" cuando incorporan a su sonido el Death Metal Melódico de una forma magistral. El Death Melódico se entrelazaria genialmente con el Black Melodico perpetuandose hasta el disco "VIII - The Time Unchained". Aquí prácticamente casi desaparecen todos los vestigios de Black Metal Melódico dejando paso a un Folk/Death Melódico que se instauraría completamente en su último disco de este año "Cavalcade" eliminando definitivamente al Black Metal de su sonido e incorporando el Power Metal en su sonido Death Melódico de un modo algo similar a Children of bodom. Realmente recomiendo todos sus discos, se trata de una banda que obligatoriamente debería formar parte de tu colección.
