Emperor fue una de las bandas pioneras del Black Metal Noruego, fundada en la ciudad de Nottodden en Noruega, siendo llamada la creadora del black metal sinfonico y formando parte del legendario Inner Circle del black metal
En su estilo podemos decir que es acelerado, crudo y sinfonico, no tan melodioso como se esperaria de una banda sinfonica, pero logran ser pioneros en una interesante combinacion de generos
